Basics missing for a healthy childhood

Re Youth suicide taking heavy toll in Canada, Sept. 15

It is shocking to know that more than 5,800 Canadian children have committed suicide in the past 13 years.

There have been some changes in the past decade that have caused suicide rates to drastically increase.

Children nowadays are simply being exposed to technology way too early in their life, which in my opinion is causing the rise in suicide rates.

Parents and family members have a role to play.

Children today are being deprived of the fundamentals of a healthy childhood.

It is important that we make sure our children receive all their needs simply by making sure they are not stuck to their digital devices and are receiving enough sleep, maintaining a healthy diet and active living.

All these factors, in my opinion, play a huge role in living a joyful life.

It is now time to try something new — and fast. Edwah Naveed, Ajax

Why are reporters and editors failing to connect the dots, refusing to acknowledge that antidepressants and other psychiatric drugs frequently cause violence, including mania, suicide and homicide, in youth going through existential identity crises?

For more than 20 years, this drugviolence connection has been documented in medical journal articles and other publications.

It’s time to expose pill-pushing psychiatrists and other doctors who are drugging, exploiting and traumatizing millions of children in crisis — in the name of mental health. Don Weitz, Toronto
