Mississauga’s tallest tower unveiled in M City project
81-storey condo building, scheduled to be completed in five years, will have 900 units
Mississauga will soon be home to one of the tallest structures in the Greater Toronto Area. The M3 tower, an 81-storey condominium building that will house 900 units ranging from 480 to 1,000 square feet, will be the tallest building in the city.
It is part of M City, an eight-tower, six-hectare, 4.3-million-square-foot planned community in downtown Mississauga, at Hurontario St. and Burnhamthorpe Rd.
Collaborating developers Rogers Real Estate Development Ltd. and Urban Capital made the announcement on Monday. The $1.5-billion vertical community will be home to 10,000 resi- dents.
“When people say ‘downtown,’ soon they’ll mean Mississauga,” Mayor Bonnie Crombie said.
The development will “strengthen our city’s tax base” to allow for funding of libraries, community centres and public transit, she added.
The building’s unique design components include a twist in the structure at the lower and upper parts of the tower. The top of the building features a sloped crown with a black-and-white diagonal pattern.
“Mississauga has a very unique layout and acts almost as a city with two grids,” said Mansoor Kazerouni, lead architect of the winning design firm IBI Group, a Canadian firm. “You have due north and south forming one grid and a streetscape that runs diagonal to those directions. Our twist is meant to speak direct- ly to both compositions.”
The M3 tower will face Burnhamthorpe Rd., with access to 0.8 hectares of public parkland.
It will have a wraparound café and an amenity pavilion, with an indoor pool and gymnasium.
Construction has already started on two of the M City towers, with a combined 1,570 units sold out.
M City is the first residential development for the Rogers family through their holding company Rogers Real Estate Development Ltd.
Construction of M3 is expected to be complete in spring 2023.
