A week in which Dunkin’ Donuts goes Donut-less while another hotel goes Trumpless
DUNKIN’
The new name of an institution in the doughnut world. The former Dunkin’ Donuts will still serve doughnuts, but as of January the name change will take effect in the U.S., and later on internationally. It’s emphasizing coffee and drinks, and de-emphasizing … what were those things called again?
LOST
The name of a certain U.S. president. The former Trump luxury hotel in Panama City has formally been renamed the JW Marriott. The dispute goes back to 2017 when owners sought to fire Trump’s company. Rejected names for the lodging apparently didn’t include Impeachtree.
ESCAPED A
rare goat-antelope. Far from being a mythical creature, the young female West Caucasian tur is a real, flesh-and-blood being that fled from a zoo in western England. Police were trying to find her using drone and thermal imaging technology. They suspect she’s scared.
HECKLED OUT
U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and his wife, Heidi. Intending to dine at an upscale restaurant in Washington, the couple was met by about a dozen protesters, who opposed his support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. They crowded his table as he and his wife appeared to be getting ready to leave.
DISORDERLY
Royal behaviour in England. The Duchess of Sussex was spotted closing a car door with her own hands. Protocol breach or turning point? It prompted this headline in the Guardian: Meghan Markle can shut her own car door — so why can’t Prince Charles iron his own shoelaces?
FOUND
Fragments of Chinese porcelain and bronze cannon, and even peppercorns, among the sunken remains of a 400year-old-ship. Archeologists in Portugal found the wreck near Cascais, west of Lisbon, the Guardian reported. It’s thought to have sailed the spice route between Europe and India, back in the day.
ARRESTED
A 20-year-old food service worker, for adding an unwanted dressing to a pizza. The Detroit man was charged with a felony after allegedly spitting on a pizza intended for customers during a Tigers home game. Video posted online is unlikely to help his case.
PUSHED OUT
Hotel workers, if their fears come true. Thousands of Marriott workers are mulling strike action as they fear the consequences of Marriott installing Amazon Alexa devices in guestrooms. The device can do things like control temperature or order room service.
