A 22-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving and a body has been recovered from the shores of Lake Ontario after a car was discovered flipped over on the rocks in Oakville early Monday.

Halton police’s Marine Unit discovered the body shortly after 11 a.m. to the west of Maple Grove Dr., near the former site of Edgemere Estate, a landmark property in Oakville’s “gold coast” of mega-mansions.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Const. Ryan Anderson said police found the body on the shore about 600 metres west of the crash site. The body belonged to an adult passenger in the car, he said.

The victim was a 27-year-old male from Mississauga. Halton police said that they are not releasing the name at the request of the family.

No one else was believed to be in the car at the time, police said.

The collision reconstruction unit has taken over the investigation. At approximately 3:05 a.m. Monday, police were called to investigate reports someone was knocking on doors in the area of Maple Grove Dr. and Lakeshore Rd. E.

After arriving on the scene, officers found a man in the area and a navy blue Chrysler fourdoor sedan flipped over the rocks on its top in the water of the lake at the dead end of Maple Grove. Uniformed officers and members of the search incident response team, marine unit, collision reconstruction unit and criminal investigations bureau were involved in the search.

Aaron Dobbs, from Welland, has been charged with impaired driving causing death and refusal to provide a breath sample.
