When it comes to choosing a realtor, Canadians have many options. With more than 120,000 registered agents in Canada, however, it can be difficult for first-time homebuyers to be assured they’re working with the best one.
Seek someone well-rounded
Before choosing a realtor, consider their knowledge, experience, and business practices, advises Gareth Jones, FRI, CRES, Executive Vice President at the Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC). High standards, high-quality advice
To become an FRI, realtors must have a minimum of five years of real estate experience, expertise in property sales and marketing, and a thorough knowledge of provincial real estate laws and financial regulations.
Realtors with the designation are also required to uphold the REIC’s Code of Professional Standards. “FRIs are true leaders in their profession,” Jones says. “Many FRI-designated realtors hold senior positions in the private and public real estate sectors.”
