Media must keep shining light

-

Kudos to Jim Mattis for resigning as U.S. defence secretary, saying that the president deserves someone atop the Pentagon who is better aligned with his views. This is the latest of many highprofile members of ‘Trump Nation’ to follow their conscience, show some backbone and not sell their ethical souls.

It may be a bit early to judge high profile members of ‘Ford Nation’ on this basis and, so far, the only member not willing to sell her soul and principles is Amanda Simard, who has resigned from the Regressive Conservative caucus. What a courageous stand. The rest must be hoping that that stuff on their shoes is just a little mud and not something worse that could smell for a very long time. No Carolyn, buying new shoes won’t help.

At this point, let us praise those who have expressed dissent over Emperor Doug’s edicts with some success: the public and the media are standing up and shining a bright light on the Queen’s Park follies and, in so doing, have succeeded in painting Mr. Ford into a bluster-proof corner. This seems to be the case with the appointment of buddy Ron Taverner as head of the OPP and, with any common sense, the sex-ed curriculum. Citizens and media of Ontario, please keep up the good work in expressing intelligent dissent. Keep shining those lights and eventually there will be one at the end of this unfortunate tunnel we find ourselves in. David Ottenbrite, Cambridge, Ont.
