CBD oil helped manage hip pain

-

Re CBD is clearly having a moment. But don’t expect it to last, Opinion, Feb. 22 The very well-written article by David Olive speaks about the anecdotal evidence of the efficacy of CBD. The reason that there is little science (proof) is that until the fall, the product was illegal. I understand that a scientist could go to jail for studying cannabis. There is little doubt that there is some product out there that is a scam. I have yet another anecdotal tale of success.

Recently, I had a complete hip replacement. Pre- and postoperation, I used CBD oil that contained a very small amount of THC. My prescribing physician (a scientist) told me that CBD and THC work in concert for pain relief and other things.

I can tell you that the CBD-THC product allowed me to manage bone-on-bone pain for well more than a year. I took a few drops of the oil per day and all I needed were a couple of Tylenol at night. I golfed, I went to the gym, I walked. The hospital (run by scientists) encouraged me to bring the product for use after surgery. My CBD therapy had no psychoactive effects.

The science is soft on this, but there are so many tales that validate the efficacy of CBD. The biggest problem for patients is that everyone reacts differently to cannabis. But I can tell you that after a fair bit of experimentation, I had a substantially drug-free, well-managed pain process with my hip.

No wonder Big Pharma is concerned. Their monopoly of pain relief, sleep aids and many other things is at risk, if not over. While opioids can kill, CBD cannot. David Bourque, The Blue Mountains, Ont.
