Blair firing another sign PC is out of hand
Re Tories take heat after sacking of OPP deputy, March 5
I can’t help comparing the situation Brad Blair is in to that of Jody Wilson-Raybould. Wilson-Raybould found herself facing legislation that had been changed to provide an alternate arrangement for SNCLavalin. Blair discovered the credentials required for the position for the top job in the OPP had been reduced to allow Ron Taverner to qualify. Both of these individuals were trying to protect the independence of the institutions they represent by speaking “their truth.” However, both were demoted. I believe that it is important to walk through life with one’s integrity intact, both of these individuals have done that. They are to be commended for their courage. Marion Thomas, Pickering First, the premier demanded hand- picked body guards and threatened the OPP commissioner to get them. Then came his off-the-books van request and a push to get his Ron Taverner installed as commissioner. Changes to the Police Act have been tabled, and now the OPP whistleblower has been fired. Ontarians, it’s time to ask the PC caucus why the premier wants control of the OPP. Ask before it becomes too risky. Susan Girvan, Toronto The firing of OPP commissioner Blair is the biggest miscarriage of justice the current PC government has done yet. I hope the commissioner sues the government, Doug Ford and Sylvia Jones for wrongful dismissal. I hope that come the next election, all the tax paying voters will remember the many dumb things done by this government. Allan Mantel, Victoria Harbour, Ont.
