Guilty verdict for murder of Oakville woman

- DAVID LEA

AFort Erie man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Oakville’s Angela Skorulski two years ago.

The jury delivered its verdict in a Milton court Friday morning after nearly 14 hours of deliberation.

James Scordino, clad in a dark grey suit, white dress shirt and blue tie, closed his eyes and bowed his head as the verdict was read.

Skorulski’s sisters, Paula Shaw and Pam Skorulski, were present throughout the three-week trial.

“We’re very pleased with the outcome,” Shaw said. “It has been a long time coming, two years. It is actually two years today that her body was found, and it is International Women’s Day, which is pretty significant.”

The jury found that on Feb. 13, 2017, Scordino was at Skorulski’s condominium at 205 Lakeshore Rd., W., and shot her four times in the head, including once in the back of the head at close range.

“We’re glad for the family that the matter has come to a conclusion,” Crown Attorney Amy Stevenson said. “We think that the jury made the right decision.”

Skorulski’s two sisters described Skorulski as a gentle soul who only had a few good friends and was searching for happiness.

The sisters said the three of them got together on Feb. 9, 2017, to celebrate their birthdays. However, it became clear something was wrong.

“She was reaching out to us, but not telling us any details. She knew she had made some wrong choices,” Shaw said.

Scordino and Skorulski worked together in the elevator installation and supply parts industry.

They also had a personal relationship and at one point had arranged to purchase a luxury Oakville condo together, although Scordino, who was already living with his spouse in Niagara Falls, never moved in.

Scordino’s conviction carries an automatic life sentence. A sentencing hearing will be held on March 29.
