We must all take a stand against evil
Re New Zealand shooting manifesto resembles Norway mass murderer’s text, March 20
Innocent men, women and children were gunned down because of their faith in one of the safest places on earth. It was an act of terrorism fuelled by an evil ideology that espouses racism and bigotry towards Islam and all immigrants.
The so-called manifesto of the killer is a senseless and convoluted piece of conspiracy theories that promotes fascism, white supremacy and Islamophobia. It is clear that the killer’s purpose was to publicize this event to gain fame among the fascists and neonazis and encourage them to commit such acts in their evil pursuits.
Peoples of all races and faiths and all Western democratic governments should stand in solidarity to condemn this barbaric act in the strongest possible terms. It should be acknowledged that white supremacist terrorism is real and present.
The strong arm of the law must take swift action against those spewing the evil ideology of Islamophobia and white supremacy in the dark corners of social media or in the public domain. Social media platforms should be held accountable for allowing this kind of venom on their sites.
Gun laws must be tightened, and violent games must be banned. Otherwise, reoccurrence of such acts could not be ruled out.
Meanwhile, governments should be vigilant and provide appropriate security to Muslim places of worship so that they can worship in peace and security. Khurram Musti Khan, Milton
