Certain Woman hits the stage at JFL42
Margaret Trudeau is bringing her hit one-woman show to Toronto’s JFL42 comedy festival. The mother of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and former wife of another prime minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, has received critical acclaim for Certain Woman of an Age in previous runs in Montreal and Chicago.
The show is a look at Margaret’s life, including her troubled marriage to Pierre, her mental illness and her hobnobbing with the rich and famous including, yes, Mick Jagger.
The show will get a special presentation during JFL42 Sept.19 to 22 at the Jane Mallett Theatre.
The festival also announced it’s adding a second show for headliner John Mulaney, who’ll perform with an unidentified special guest Sept. 22 at 9:30 p.m. at the Sony Centre. Mulaney also appears with Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson on Sept. 22.
Other additions include the world premiere of the film Billy Connolly — The Sex Life of Bandages; a screening and Q&A of Netflix’s Between Two Ferns: The Movie, with director Scott Aukerman and actor Lauren Lapkus; a live performance of Aukerman’s Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast; a behindthe-scenes panel with the stars and creators of CBC’s Kim’s Convenience; and sketch show Mark & Andy & Dave, starring Mark Little, Andy Bush ( Picnicface, Cavendish) and Dave Maclin.
See jlf42.com for more on the festival, which runs Sept. 19 to 29. Tickets and passes go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
