Most seniors want to stay in their homes as long as possible for t heir comfort and quality of life. However, when family members move away, they often feel they have no choice but to move an aging loved one to a personal care home because providing care and safety from afar can be stressful for both parents and family members. With Nurse Next Door Home Care Services, which recently launched in Winnipeg, there’s now an option for out-of-town family members looking for high-quality supportive care for their aging parent.

Direct Action in Support of Community Homes (DASCH), a Winnipeg not-for-profit that supports individuals with intellectual disabilities, recently opened the Nurse Next Door Winnipeg franchise. As an agency that recognizes the value of living in the community, DASCH specializes in keeping people out of institutions and facilities through its operation of over 59 community homes and programs. “With over 40 years of providing highquality, personal care to individuals and supporting them to stay in their homes in the community, we felt that Nurse Next Door was a natural expansion to what we do,” says Karen Fonseth, CEO of DASCH.

Happier aging for your loved ones

“We see the benefit of having seniors stay in their home and enjoy their lives in a place that’s familiar and comfortable,” says Fonseth. “At Nurse Next Door we focus on Happier Aging™, delivering high-quality home care services, and providing special and unique experiences.” She noted these special services include things like gardening, support for favourite activities such as knitting, going swimming, shopping, or arranging visits to familiar places.
