Minimum-wage earners must speak up and be heard

-

Re Here’s one thing the pandemic might change forever: officewear, Mallick, Aug. 7

I agree with Heather Mallick that change will come agonizingly slowly, if at all, as a result of the pandemic.

Specifically with respect to minimum-wage earners, we have already seen that large, successful organizations such as Loblaws and Amazon would not continue giving their employees the $2-per-hour bonus, even as these employees were risking their lives to generate increased profits for these companies. It seems as if greed will always win.

A form of civil disobedience must be undertaken by all minimum-wage workers across Canada if we are to see an improvement in the standard of living of the underpaid labour force that plays such an important role in the well-being of all Canadians.

While I prefer this was not necessary, it seems that low-wage workers in Canada must go on a general strike across the country if they want companies and politicians to listen to them and, more importantly, actually do something for them.
