Police ID man killed in fight near LCBO
Toronto police have identified the 21-year-old man killed outside an LCBO store after an argument with another customer while making a purchase.
Jakub Sudomericky was killed at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the store parking lot at 3111 Danforth Ave., near Victoria Park Avenue, police said. Sudomericky was buying something at the store at the same time as a 20-year-old man and a woman. The two men got into a verbal argument before all three people left the store.
“A short time after, (Sudomericky) was running through the parking lot and gun shots were heard and he was seen laying on the ground,” police said in a news release Monday.
Det. Amanda Thornton later told reporters that an argument took place inside the LCBO, near the checkout, but would not provide any details about the dispute, which is still under investigation.
There is no indication the suspect and the victim — both of whom appear on surveillance video wearing masks inside the store — knew each other, Thornton said. She would not comment on reports that the dispute had been over social distancing.
“I have not put out any information that this was about social distancing, I don’t know where that information came from,” she said.
Thorton said a single shot was fired. Police also located a knife at the scene. “How that knife plays into this is still under investigation,” Thornton said.
Michael Roberts, 20, of Toronto, has been charged with first degree murder.
