Outbreaks reported at 3 more LTC homes
Ontario is reporting another 2,417 COVID-19 cases, and 50 more deaths, according to its latest report released Sunday morning.
The seven-day average is down to 2,459 cases daily, or 118 cases weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s seven-day average for deaths is at 56.3 daily, according to the Star’s Ed Tubb.
There are 1,436 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 392 patients in intensive care. There are 301 people on ventilators.
Ontario’s hospitalization numbers tend to be undercounted on weekends. In its Sunday morning report, the province added that more than 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to its daily census, as is often the case on weekends. “We anticipate the number of hospitalized patients may increase when reporting compliance increases,” it says.
Locally, Health Minister Christine Elliott says 785 cases are in Toronto, 404 in Peel, 215 in York Region, and 121 in Niagara.
Ontario has administered 4,427 doses of the vaccine since its last daily update, the lowest number of doses since Jan. 3. A total of 280,573 doses have been given as of 8 p.m. Saturday night. The province also says 62,881 people have received both shots of the two-dose vaccine, meaning they are fully vaccinated.
Meanwhile, 14 more residents in long-term care have died for a total of 3,336 since the pandemic began, in the latest report released by the province,
Ontario is reporting three more long-term-care homes in outbreak, for a total of 255.
There are 142 more active cases among residents than the previous day for a total of 1,253.
