Brock Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden has died after a battle with cancer.

A veteran politician who served her community since 1997, Bath-Hadden died Sunday at home with her husband and family. She was 61.

“We find ourselves in a place of profound sadness as we struggle with the news of the passing of Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden,” said Deputy Mayor Ted Smith in a posting on the township’s website.

“Mayor Bath-Hadden was a decisive leader who always put the needs of our community and residents first. She spent many years in public service as a strong champion of township and regional issues and served the community with devotion.”

Bath-Hadden was elected mayor in 2018, becoming the first female mayor in Brock Township history. Her political career started in December 1997 when she was elected as the Ward 4 councillor, a position she held for three consecutiv­e terms until 2006. She was then elected

as regional councillor in both the 2010 and 2014 municipal elections.

“During her years on council, Mayor Bath-Hadden was successful in bringing Brock its first Zamboni, summer day camp program and annual charity golf tournament. One of her biggest achievemen­ts was securing funding from the federal government for a community employment centre in Brock,” said the township posting announcing the mayor’s death.

“She was proud of the township, its staff, residents and businesses and worked tirelessly around the clock for the betterment of the community,” said Becky Jamieson, Brock’s municipal clerk, in the posting.

“She will be greatly missed by all.”
