- KEVIN JIANG

Ontario is reporting another 1,185 COVID-19 cases and 16 more deaths, according to its latest report released Saturday morning.

The seven-day average is at 1,108 cases daily, or 53 weekly per 100,000. Ontario’s sevenday average for deaths is at 16 daily — the lowest rate since Nov. 15.

The province says 59,416 tests were completed the previous day with a positivity rate of 2.1 per cent.

There are 680 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in the province, including 276 patients in intensive care. There are 182 people on ventilators.

Ontario set a new record by administering 24,339 doses of the vaccine since its last daily update, with 668,104 vaccines given in total as of 8 p.m. the previous night. The province says 260,972 people have completed their vaccinations, which means they’ve received both doses.

The previous record of most daily vaccines administered was on Friday.

Locally, Health Minister Christine Elliott says 331 cases are in Toronto, 220 in Peel Region and 119 in York Region.

Meanwhile, no more residents in long-term care have died in the latest report released by the province.

A total 3,754 deaths were counted in long-term care since the pandemic began.

Ontario is reporting 10 fewer long-term-care homes in outbreak, for a total of 101 — or 16.1 per cent of LTC homes in the province.

This data is self-reported by the long-term care homes to the Ministry of Long-Term Care. Daily case and death figures may not immediately match the numbers posted by the local public health units due to lags in reporting time.

There are 508 confirmed cases in Ontario of the highly contagious variant first detected in the United Kingdom, an increase of 31 from the previous day.

There are 25 cases in Ontario of the variant first detected in South Africa, with 11 more reported than the previous day.

There are two cases of the variant first found in Brazil, the same as the previous day.
