It’s time to kick axe in Shelburne.

The Wild Axe Park, run by world champion axe thrower and lumberjack Darren Hudson, will be offering a satellite operation at Boxing Rock Brewery in Shelburne, owned by Henry Pedro and Emily Tipton.

It’s a partnership that formed over a mutual respect for each other’s business ethics. Both businesses work hard, but now it’s time to play hard.

Beginning May 25 and continuing for the following six weeks, a new league will begin at the brewery.

This isn’t the first time the two businesses have been in cahoots.

Boxing Rock released the Wild Axe Pilsner, which is sold at Hudson’s Timber Lounge in Halifax.

“The great thing is now we can have competitions,” said Hudson.

There has been an axe throwing league in Barrington for the past three years. Most people who have joined have heard about it on Facebook or have seen photos of friends throwing, he said.

“They are curious when they start,” said Hudson. “But they never think it’s going to be so much fun. I often hear it is the ‘best time ever.’”

Hudson said that’s why he does it: the excitement, the friendships formed, the competition and the excuse to get together.

“What we’ve created changes people’s lives,” he said.
