Western N.S. Exhibition opens Wednesday

to musical entertainment, including tributes to some rock legends.

Of course, there’s the popular midway, which will open daily at noon, with the exception of Wednesday ( Aug. 2), when it opens at 3 p.m. Every day is bracelet day.

“I can tell you that the Hurricane ride is coming, apparently there’s a lot of buzz about that,” said Barb Firth, a director on the board of the Yarmouth County Agricultural Society, which organizes the exhibition.

Exhibition participants include 4H members, who will have various displays and activities.

“We’re really happy that 4H is there because they’re wonderful,” Firth said. “I think a lot of people don’t realize how much 4H kids do.”

The exhibition’s entertainment lineup includes a Friday night tribute to the music of Rod Stewart, Cher and Lady Gaga and a Saturday night tribute to Bryan Adams and Shania Twain.

Musical performers for this year’s exhibition from closer to home include Jason Price, Dave Gunning, Blain Henshaw and the Bellamon.

Aside from the musical offerings, the exhibition includes, to name just a few more, an ATV competition, drone racing and an impressive domino display.

The kiddie farm is among the exhibition’s popular daily features.

Firth says the exhibition wouldn’t happen without the efforts of many volunteers.

Planning for the exhibition begins pretty much a year in advance, she said, although it’s the last two months or so prior to the event that things really start to happen.

“It’s a great group of people and it’s a wonderful organization to be involved in,” she said. “And we’re always looking for new volunteers.”

The community is very supportive of the exhibition, Firth said, and the exhibition puts a lot back into the community.

Referring to what the exhibition has to offer, she said, “It really is family fun for ages two to 92, where you can make memories and friends. We do it because we love to see people coming through the doors and the best thing is the smiles on people’s faces.”
