Scallop Days

-

Another festival hits the region this week in Digby.

The 43rd annual Digby Scallop Days Festival happens this week in Digby from Aug. 10-13. The theme of this year’s festival is ‘Dragging up our Past.’

Digby Scallop Days is a celebration of the scallop industry and all who are involved in it. You’ll find scallops and vari- ous ways of serving them on countless local eatery menus, but Digby scallops also have a world-wide reputation as being a succulent treat.

There are a multitude of events happening this week as part of Scallop Days in celebration and recognition of this important industry.

The queen’s coronation takes place Thursday evening at the Digby Pines.

Starting Friday, vendors will line Admirals Walk for the duration of the festival. Throughout the festival Admirals Walk will also be the venue of events such as seafood sampling, a touch tank, scallop BBQs, scallop shucking demonstrations and aqua golf.

The Digby Marina will play host to Friday evening’s opening ceremonies at 7 p. m. and during the festival will also be the site for other events such as live entertainment, a children’s parade, a touch tank, concerts, kids activities, a scavenger hunt and much more.

A small fireworks display takes place at the Marina on Friday evening at 10 p.m., with the grand finale fireworks happening here Sunday night at 10 p.m.

Many other locations are also hosting activities during the festival, such as the ballfield, the arena, the firehall, Sunset Pub, the bandstand, the high school, the Legion, the Heritage Centre, etc.

The end of Scallop Days won’t mean the end of festivities in Digby. The area is also preparing for the Aug. 15 and 16 tall ships visits.
