The Shelburne County Flames captured the Peewee A division of the Fall Classic tournament hosted by SCMHA this month, finishing with a 3-1 record.

In their opening game, the Shelburne squad dropped a 4-2 decision to the hardworkin­g Clare/ Digby Ravens. Game MVP Jessica Mackinnon had both goals during the loss.

The second game of the weekend seen the Flames edge Eastern Shore by a score of 5-3. Scoring for the winners were Jessica Mackinnon with a pair of goals, with Jack Atkinson, Cohen Nickerson and Elliot Taylor adding singles. Defenceman Jada Mackinnon picked up Game MVP honours with one assist.

The Spears and MacLeod Pharmasave Peeeee AA Mariners lost two home games last weekend, coming out flat against a very strong Amherst team. Braeden Hipson and Charlie Whitty both battled hard in net. Riley Hubbard scored Yarmouth’s only goal in the 4-1 loss in game two. The Shoto Ryu Jutsu Karate Club from Yarmouth brought home five gold medals, four silver medals and eight bronze medals in individual Kata (Forms), Ninja Turtles (Flag kumite), Kumite (sparring) and Team Kata (team forms).

The club was participat­ing at the #1 Grand Prix provincial karate tournament held in Bridgewate­r. There were about 170 competitor­s at the #1 Victor L Swinimer Memorial competitio­n that was hosted by Karate Nova Scotia.

Sensei Rob Sweeney says it’s not about winning or losing, it’s about participat­ing. He was impressed with all of the club’s students that went and believes there will be a lot of new promo- semi, the Shelburne squad jumped out to an early 4-1 first period lead on a pair of goals from Jessica Mackinnon, with single markers tions next month at the grading being held at Burridge NSCC. • Ari Woo: bronze team kata junior mix from Chase Perry and Ty Kelley. Despite a late game surge of pressure from the hard working Ravens, the Flames managed to hold on for the 4-3 victory. Game MVP Defenceman Elliot Taylor and Quade Shand picked up an assist each. The win vaulted the locals into the championsh­ip contest against a much more rested Mariners team.

In the final game before a huge pro Shelburne crowd, the Flames dominated all areas of the ice on the way to a convincing 6-0 win, capturing their second tournament banner of the season. Jessica Mackinnon paced the attack with two goals and two assists, game MVP Jack Atkinson added a goal and two assists, with Chase Perry, Elliot Taylor and Brody Goreham adding a goal each. Dakot Ryer picked up two assists, while goalies Luke Spencer and Jacob Atwood shared the shutout.

Tryout dates for 16U, 17U and 18U female are Dec. 4, 7, 11 and

14.

Tryouts for 13U, 14U and 15U female are Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13.

All tryout times are 7:30-9 p.m. Arrive at 7 p.m. to register.

Fees are $250 for 13U; $250 plus jersey for 14U and 15U and $300 plus jersey for 16U, 17U and 18U. Age categories:

• 18U: born between Sept. 1999 and Dec. 31, 2000

• 17U: born between Sept. 2000 and Dec. 31, 2001

• 16U: born between Sept. 2001 and Dec. 31, 2002

• 15U: born between Sept. 2002 and Dec. 31, 2003

• 14U: born between Sept. 2003 and Dec. 31, 2004
