Adults can do their own Scrapbooki­ng project with a group of people who want to share ideas and projects.

• Pictorial Quilting Display: During open hours in January and February. Pictorial quilter Carol Swinden will display her work using fabric and thread as a medium. Her work has been displayed in art galleries, published in magazines, and won awards in Canada and United States.

• Introducti­on to Basic Budgeting: Thursday, Jan. 11, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Lisette Saulnier of Caisse populaire de Clare will lead this workshop helping people to make a sound budget. Register by Jan. 10.

• LEGO/DUPLO Family Fun Nights: Thursday, Jan. 11, 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Families and children aged three to 12 can join us for a LEGO/ DUPLO creative fun night. Children under five must be accompanie­d by a parent or adult.

• Story Time for Tots: Fridays, Jan. 12, 19 and 26, 10:15 a.m. Children aged five and under can drop in every Friday morning to listen to stories. Parents and guardians are expected to stay with their children.

• Get Cyber Smart: Thursday, Jan. 25, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Learn ways to keep your children safe online with Melanie Rhora, a family security expert with Cyber Smart Canada Inc. The workshop is geared toward families with children aged six to 14, covering what to watch for on your children’s phones and tablets, how to recognize dangers and scams, how to protect personal informatio­n, and how to keep them safe from cyber bullies while allowing them to be social. Participan­ts will be entered into a draw for a copy of her book Cyber Smart Parents: A Guide to Internet Safety for Kids.

• Literacy Day Family Fun: Saturday, Jan. 27, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Families with children up to age 12 can join us for a fun time featuring stories, games and art activities.

• Who Will Have the Last Word? Sunday, Jan. 21, 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. The library is offering Scrabble board games for all ages. Enjoy a hot beverage while you play a game of Scrabble. We also offer French Scrabble board games.

• The Novel Bunch Reading Group: Tuesday, Jan. 23, 7:15 p.m. The Novel Bunch book group will discuss The Constant Gardener by John Le Carre. The novel is a 2001 thriller and suspense novel set in Kenya. The story is about AIDS, drug testing, cover-ups and internatio­nal corruption.

The Electric City: Friday, Jan. 26, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Hal Theriault and Stacey Doucette will share the history of the Electric City, a small settlement inland from Weymouth called New France the Electric City. It was establishe­d in the late 1800s by fam- ilies seeking new lives away from Europe. This program is for all ages.

• Puppet Reading Stories: Saturday, Jan. 27, 10:30 to 11 a.m. Celebrate Family Literacy Day by joining us and listening to stories read by puppets. This program is for all ages.

• Colouring Café: Wednesdays, 6 p.m. Enjoy a coffee, tea, or hot chocolate as you colour away the cares of the day. Colouring pages and pencils are provided, but participan­ts can bring their own if they choose. This program is for adults.

• Happy Bookers Book Club: Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. On the first Tuesday of the month enjoy lively book discussion­s with friends! Today the group will discuss The Orphan Keeper by Camron Wright. The club will share a new book every month. Coffee and tea are served. New members are always welcome.

• Story Time Buddies: Wednesdays, Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31, 10 a.m. Children play and sing their way to literacy with the residents of Bay Side Home. Activities are suited for preschool children and easily adapted for caregivers to join in with toddlers and babies, making this group fun for anyone not yet attending school.

• Trivia Night: Friday, Jan. 12, 7 p.m. Trivia Night will challenge contestant­s to answer 40 questions. This program is for adults.

• Teddy Bear Picnic and Sleepover: Thursday, Jan. 25, 6 p.m. Children aged 3 to 6 and their caregivers can join us as we celebrate Family Literacy Day with a special story time. Bring your favourite stuffed friend for stories, songs and fun as we enjoy a picnic together. Then, leave your stuffed friend at the library for a sleepover! Pick up your friend the next day along with a scrapbook of their adventures. Space is limited to 10 participan­ts. Register by Wednesday, Jan. 24.

• Boys Night Out: Nerdworx: Thursday, Jan. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Learn about the inner workings of computer hardware by taking it apart. This program is ‘just for the guys’ aged 9 to 12.’

• Girl Thing: Paperback Roses: Thursday, Jan. 25, 6:30 p.m. The girls will create a craft with books from the past. Girl Thing is a program for girls in Grade 4 to 6. Participan­ts are asked to register by Jan. 23 by contacting the library.

Steps to Connect is a program designed to help people living with chronic conditions take steps to connect themselves to people around them and to their community. It is a recreation-based education program, running two consecutiv­e programs. This program is for adults. Register by contacting Yarmouth Recreation at 902-742-8868 by Jan. 5.

• Mental Health and Well-Being with Dominic Deveau – Overview of Mental Health and Well-Being: Saturday, Jan. 13, 2 to 3 p.m. Dominic Deveau is a trained therapist with a master of Arts in Counsellin­g Psychology from Yorkville University who has done extensive work with trauma, addictions, OCD and other disorders. He will be offering a series of workshops on mental health and well-being. Each workshop will be a separate topic and each will have a pre-registrati­on for each session. The first session covers the main factors that are considered as part of maintainin­g general mental health and well-being. These sessions are for people aged 16 and older. Register by Jan. 11.

• Write a Story - Family Literacy Day: Saturday, Jan. 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library will host a group story writing session for families. The story will begin with “Once Upon a Time” and each family/child will add a line. Goofy is good.

• Mental Health and Well-Being with Dominic Deveau – Stress Management:

Saturday, Jan. 27, 2 to 3 p.m. Dominic Deveau is a trained therapist with a master of Arts in Counsellin­g Psychology from Yorkville University. This session will offer an overview of, and emphasis on, awareness and potential solutions of how individual difference­s, such as childhood developmen­t, can affect coping and management abilities of daily life stressors. These sessions are for people aged 16 and older. Register by Jan. 25.
