Public presentation in Shelburne
Stompin’ Tom Connors subject of presentation
The Shelburne Museums by the Sea supported Community Engagement Council will hold their fifth in a series of public presentations on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Osprey Arts Centre.
This presentation will be given by one of Shelburne’s newest residents Jay Pilzer and is entitled, ‘The Man Who Defined a Nation One Stomp at a Time: The Remarkable Career of Stompin’ Tom Connors.’
Jay Pilzer is a retired history professor with a Ph.D. in history, an author who has published one book about the history of guitars and another on the relationship between fans and a particular artist or genre, and is a former guitar dealer and a blues and folk singer/ Jay Pilzer will present the workshop on Jan. 10. songwriter. He recently moved here from Nashville, TN and has brought his musical talents with him.
Pilzer released a CD of original material in 2005 called “I Think It’s Gonna Rain,” featuring a mix of love songs, stories, and blues.
His knowledge of history and of people allow him to fill his songs with characters, good and evil, who play out the human drama before us. His roots are in folk but his outlook is fresh and often surprising.
He has recently become fascinated with the complex and uncommon carrier of Stompin’ Tom Connors. Pilzer believes that this remarkable artist has a story that is unique in the histories of both popular music and Canada
