Regarding the story: Cooke reaffirms no fish escapes in Jordan Bay (Jan. 31, 2018). Undoubtedly this winter will be remembered for its wild extremes. Weather events from winter hurricanes to temperature fluctuations ranging from near polar to unusually record-breaking on the positive side.

So goes the variance in the number of dead salmon at the Site 1358 in Jordan Bay after the storm of Jan. 4, 2018.

One notable constant from a storm of facts and fables is the hailing prowess of Joel Richardson, vice-president of public relations for Cooke Aquaculture. “Richardson confirmed there was some fish mortality as a result of the storm, but it was very low levels at about 0.5 per cent.”

Hats off to he who can hail and random fish product within five pounds to the 1000th, 50 pound to the 10,000th…you see where is headed.

I now understand why provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Keith Colwell is confident in reports coming from this site.
