The Southwest Fusion volleyball club will play host to one of Volleyball Nova Scotia’s Super Series events on the weekend of Feb. 9-11, with the action to be divided between two Yarmouth County schools: École secondaire de Pas- en- Bas and Drumlin Heights Consolidated School.

There will be 16U and 18U boys action, as well as 15U tier 2 girls.

The 16U boys will kick things off Friday, Feb. 9, and play for this group will continue Saturday, Feb. 10. One pool will play at Par-en-Bas, the other at Drumlin Heights.

The 18U boys will play Saturday evening, Feb. 10, and Sunday, Feb. 11, at Par-en-Bas, while the 15U tier 2 girls will be at Drumlin.

Event spokeswoman Claudette Deveau invites people to check out the action.

“We are very excited about hosting four pools in two gyms for Super Series,” she said, add- ing that last year they only had two pools at Par-en-Bas.

“We encourage everyone to come and watch some high-calibre volleyball at the two schools during the weekend. They will not be disappointed.”

There are three Super Series weekends all told. These are used to rank teams for provincial championships that will take place at the end of April.

“We do well in volleyball in this end of the province,” Deveau said, “but we rarely get the chance to show off the talent. Teams in this area usually have to travel to compete. Therefore, it is a real treat to be able to host.”

This is a hectic time of year the Southwest Fusion club.

“It is a busy time of year, getting in practice times and such,” Deveau said. “However, it is all good. After all the tryouts in December, we have five women’s teams ranging from U14 to U18 and a men’s team at all three levels within the Southwest Fusion club. All but the two U14 teams will be participating in the Super Series tournaments throughout the season.”

Meanwhile, the Carnivolley tournament for 13U and 14U girls will take place at the Paren- Bas school the weekend of Feb. 16-17.
