Yarmouth Captures Wicken’s Cup Memorial

The Yarmouth Mariners Peewee AA team captured the Wicken’s Cup Memorial tournament with a perfect 4-0 record in Shelburne on the Jan. 27 and 28 weekend.

In the opening game of the tournament, the Yarmouth squad shut out the host Shelburne County Flames 3-0. Braedan Hipson stopped all 19 shots to blank the Flames, while Riley Hubbard, Cameron Barnes, and Russell Pinksen scored for the victors.

Clare/ Digby opened their tournament by pounding the Truro Bearcats 8-2. Chad Reddick paced the attack with three goals, while Brady Gavel and Daniel Jamieson added a pair each, and Zack Comeau a single marker.

Yarmouth made it two wins in a row by downing Clare/Digby Ravens 9-4 in their next contest of the weekend. Scoring for Yarmouth was Carson d’Eon, Cale Hines, Russell Pinksen, Blake Newell, Luke MacLeay, Ryder Travis, Cameron Barnes, Riley Hubbard, and Wyatt Nickerson. Responding for the Ravens was Brady Gavel with two, Zack Comeau and Brett Hall.

The hometown Flames got themselves into the win column in their next game by hammering the Truro Bearcats 9-3. Jessica Mackinnon paced the offense for the winners with four goals, Dakota Ryer and Brody Goreham a pair each, and a single marker off the stick of Cohen Nickerson. The Par- en- Bas Sharks girls high school hockey team defeated the Yarmouth Vikings 5-3 in league action.

Scoring for PEB were Josette Thibodeau with a pair of goals, Angèle LeBlanc and Jenna Comeau who each had a goal and an assist and Grace Spinney with a goal. Kennedy Pitman was in net for the win.

For Yarmouth, Grace Hobbs had a goal and an assist. Hallie Moore and Saige Breton each had a goal and assists came from Grace Hobbs, Hannah Thurston and Megan Hurlburt.
