The South Shore Regional Economic Network (SSREN), in partnership with the Town of Shelburne and the Community Business Development Corporation - Shelburne (CBDC), are offering a workshop that will help aspiring Bed and Breakfast (B&B) owners learn what would be involved in the planning, opening and operating of one.

The workshop is a response to an identified need by the Town of Shelburne.

“We have many great festivals and events, including sporting events in the Shelburne area, which create a need for additional accommodations” said Mayor Karen Mattatall. “We’re excited to highlight this opportunity for local entrepreneurs.”

The three-hour workshop will cover the advantages and potential challenges of owning and operating a B&B; start-up; operations; and moving forward tips.

“Tourism is a diverse and valued sector in our South Shore communities, we are pleased to be a partner in the delivery of this event and look forward to wel- coming participants” said CBDC – Shelburne Executive Director Dixie Redmond.

Charles Otter, manager of the SSREN and facilitator of the workshop, brings his strong background in international hotel management and his experience in operating a B&B for the past two years on the South Shore.

The SSREN mandate is to guide and navigate regional economic development while providing support to businesses. In their implementation of the mandate, the SSREN serves as a connector among economic development partners and supports business start-up, retention, and expansion. The organization is funded by the province of Nova Scotia and nine municipal units spanning from the Municipality of the District of Chester to and includ- ing the Municipality of the District of Shelburne.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CBDC-Shelburne Offices 157 Water St., Shelburne. A light lunch will be served. There is no charge for participation; however, pre-registration is required.
