Volunteer Week events taking shape
Six events to be held in April covering 11 municipal units in tri-counties
Since the Vanguard carried a story a couple of weeks ago about preparations for National Volunteer Week, a bit more information has become available regarding dates and locations for volunteer recognition events in the tri-county region.
Six events covering the 11 municipal units in Digby, Yarmouth and Shelburne counties are planned for April as part of the annual volunteer appreciation campaign.
The official dates for this year’s National Volunteer Week are April 15-21, although not all recognition activities necessarily take place during this specific seven-day period.
A couple of this year’s events are scheduled for Tuesday, April 17.
On that date, at the Digby fire hall, volunteers from the Town of Digby and Municipality of Digby will be honoured.
On that same date, at the Yarmouth town hall, the annual awards ceremony will take place for volunteers from Yarmouth town and municipality.
Two days later – on Thursday, April 19 – two more tri-county events will be held.
The Municipality of Clare will recognize its volunteers on that date at the Clare Veterans Centre in Saulnierville.
Also on that date, three units – Town of Lockeport, Town of Shelburne, Municipality of Shelburne – again will team up to honour their volunteers. The Municipality of Shelburne is this year’s host, but the event location has yet to be announced. (The site will be selected once the municipality has chosen its representative volunteer for this year, which is expected to be done by about mid-February.)
On Friday, April 20, it will be the Municipality of Argyle’s turn with a volunteer awards banquet at the Club des Audacieux in Quinan.
