High scoring games for Flames

-

The Shelburne County Flames picked up a win and a tie in Peewee A exhibition hockey last weekend at the Chester arena.

In their first game on Sunday, the Flames edged the CMHF, second place Tasa Ducks 8-7 during a high octane offensive affair. The Shelburne squad squandered a 6-3 second period advantage, as the Ducks stormed back to tie the game 7-7. Jessica Mackinnon potted the winner on her third goal of the game with only 1:57 remaining, as the Flames hung on for the eventual victory. Brody Goreham fired a hat-trick, with Cohen Nickerson and Ty Kelley adding singles. Chase Perry racked up 5 assists.

The Flames had a short rest before hitting the ice later that afternoon for their second game of the day. It was another highly competitive, offensive style contest that saw the Flames and the Halifax Hawks play to a 5-5 tie. Trailing late in the final frame, the feisty Shelburne squad hauled the goalie for the extra attacker, and Jessica Mackinnon fired home her third goal of the game to deadlock the contest 3-3 with only 6 seconds remaining. Chase Perry and Dylan Hatfield were the other marksmen for the Flames with one each.

This gives the locals a respectable 26 wins, 11 losses, and 4 ties on the season. The Flames will continue to prepare for the upcoming provincial playoffs with a few practices and exhibition games in the following weeks.
