Karate club members on N.S. team

Fundraisin­g underway to help team members

Seven members of the Bushino Ki Karate Club from Digby County are on the 2018 Nova Scotia Karate team and are preparing for competitio­n by training and fundraisin­g.

The team members are Dorian Thibault, Denise Thibault, Tysten Deveau, Riley Deveau, Marc-Andre Theriault, Madyson Smith and Mia Gaudet. They are all training hard for the Canadian Karate Nationals that will be held in Halifax March 9-11.

Efforts are also underway to raise money for their accommodat­ions and meals while they represent Nova Scotia, and their club, at the competitio­n.

Bushino Ki Karate Club will be having a karate tournament, a rappie pie sale and dance on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The tournament is open to all karate styles and belt levels, and will be held at Ecole Secondaire de Clare from 10 a. m. to 4 p. m. A rappie pie and bake sale will take place during the tournament in school cafeteria.

Later that night, following the competitio­n, a fun Valentine’s teen dance will be held at le Chateau at Université SainteAnne for ages 12- 18 from 8- 11 p.m. The cost is $6, or $5 if you bring a canned food donation for the Clare Food Bank.
