Casa Nova Fine Beverages to launch 1606 Cider
Casa Nova Fine Beverages ( formerly Annapolis Highland Vineyards) of Bear River East is launching a new locally inspired cider aptly named 1606 Good Cheer Craft Cider.
The year 1606 is important in the Annapolis Royal area as it is the year that Samuel de Champlain founded the Order of Good Cheer at Port Royal. The purpose of the organization was to provide good times, entertainment, good food and drink to the settlers and often included the sagamo others.
The first apple orchards in Canada were planted by the French settlers in and around Port Royal and the fruit was used for eating and for making hard apple cider.
“We wanted to honour not only our local history with this cider but also the wonderful Nova Scotian fruit that we have to work with,” says Casa Nova Fine Beverages spokeswoman Karen Enright. “We have so much to celebrate here in our area of Nova Scotia and we are pleased to be able to incorporate some of our local history Membertou and with our 1606 Good Cheer Craft Cider.
“Our label design depicts the year the Order was founded as well as a sketch of Port Royal which was drawn by Samuel de Champlain,” she adds. “Also represented on the label is our Nova Scotia tartan, apple blossoms and a short description of the Order on the back label.”
This cider will be available at local restaurants, pubs as well as at the winery in Bear River East.
