Hot music concert in Bear River supports hothouse and garden project
Limited tickets available to see award-winning, Eastern Canadian musicians perform
Digging Roots: Raven Kanetakta and ShoShona Kish. They will perform March 11 at the Marc-Lescarbot theatre in Church Point.
The Bear River Greenhouse and Waterfront Gardens project will benefit from a fundraising concert featuring Roxeen and Dalrymple on March 4 at the Oakdene Centre in Bear River.
Labelled as a tour de force of vocals, rhythms and traditional melodies, Roxeen and Dalrymple offer a classic guitar and mandolin vocal duet in a musical blend of gospel and bluegrass. The pair have been nominated for several East Coast Music Awards and have snagged numerous Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards.
Their upcoming concert benefits the Bear River Greenhouse and Waterfront Gardens project, a community garden hub, based in the glass greenhouse that used to house the former Bear River sewage treatment plant.
Since being decommissioned in 2012, the Bear River Greenhouse was slated for demolition, however, the Bear River Board of Trade negotiated a deal with the municipality and took over the space in 2016.
Since then the greenhouse and surrounding land have been transformed into a community garden space, committed to food security, organic gardening and non-GMO plantings.
The greenhouse now offers community members the opportunity to socialize while learning about growing healthy, affordable food.
Roxeen and Dalrymple have toured coast to coast in both Canada and the United States, so this event provides a rare opportunity to listen in locally.
