Shelburne Museums by the Sea celebrates Black History Month
Dartmouth playwright David Woods will share stories from his new play during his visit to Shelburne.
On Wednesday, Feb. 28, Shelburne Museums by the Sea’s Community Engagement Council will host Dartmouth playwright David Woods as he relates stories from Extraordinary Acts, his new play exploring the African Nova Scotian community experiences during the 1917 Halifax Explosion.
David Woods is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and performer ( painter, curator, storyteller, poet, playwright, painter and arts organizer) who has been an important figure on the Nova arts scene for more than three decades. He is the founding organizer of several African Nova Scotian arts and cultural organizations. Woods’ play, completed in October 2017, marked the very first broad investigation of African Nova Scotian experiences during the time of the Halifax Explosion. Doors will open at 6: 30 p. m. with the presentation beginning at 7 p. m. Admission is by donation and all proceeds will go to the Shelburne County Museum to support future programming.
