Rebels hosting provincial basketball championsh­ips

The Shelburne Regional High School (SRHS) Rebels will be hosting the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) Division 2 senior girls provincial basketball championsh­ips March 1 to 3.

The top eight teams in the province will be competing in the tournament, including the defending Division 2 champion Central Kings Rural High School and this year’s NSSAF Western Region winner, West Kings District High School from Auburn. The Metro Region will be represente­d by Carrefour High in Dartmouth, the Northern Region by Hants East Rural High in Milford Station, and the Highland Region by Breton Education Centre from New Waterford. The remaining two spots are being determined by two qualifiers with New Germany High and Millwood High in one, Amherst High and Glace Bay High in the other.

The team asks you to come out and show your support and watch some of the best girl basketball in the province.”

The Shelburne Rebels are head- ing into the tournament with a 20-10 season record. In western regional tournament action, they posted a fourth-place finish.

“This will prove to be a tough tournament for the Rebels, as they have moved up from D3 to the much more competitiv­e Div- ision 2 this year,” said Huskilson.

The tournament opens on Thursday, March 1, at SRHS, with games at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. The opening ceremonies will be at 5:45 p.m., with the Rebels taking the court for their tournament opener at 6 p.m.

Tournament action continues on Friday, March 2, in the SRHS gymnasium at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. Semifinal and consolatio­n games are slated for Saturday, March 3, at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The championsh­ip game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
