Shelburne Peewee A Flames advance to conference championship
The Shelburne County Flames have advanced to the South Conference Championship game after a 2-0 series sweep of the South Shore Ice Sharks during the WNMHL provincial playdown championship series.
The series clinching victory came at home on Saturday, March 3 in Barrington, before a large crowd of Flames supporters. It was all Flames from start to finish, as they hammered the visiting Ice Sharks 11-3.
The Shelburne County squad stormed out to an early lead and held a decisive 8-1 advantage at the second intermission. Jessica Mackinnon and Brody Goreham each fired a hat-trick for the victors, while linemate Chase Perry and Dakota Ryer potted a pair of goals, and Jack Atkinson added a single marker. Jacob Atwood picked up the win in goal with 17 saves.
The Flames now await the winner of the Central Minor Hockey Federation for the South Conference Championship banner later this month, with the winner of that advancing to the Hockey NS Peewee “A” Provincial Day of Champions held in Truro, on April 7. In exhibition action on Sunday, March 4 at the Shelburne Arena, the host Flames dumped the Queen’s County Cougars 102. Jessica Mackinnon paced the attack with 4 goals, Dylan Hatfield and Dakota Ryer each with a pair, while Ty Kelley and Chase Perry added single markers. Luke Spencer made 15 saves between the pipes.
Up next the Shelburne squad will challenge the Chebucto “AA” Atlantics during exhibition play on March 11 in Chester.
