Volunteers recognized at appreciati­on supper

Salvation Army kettle volunteers, Lions Club giving tree and adopt a family volunteers and local businesses were among those honoured at an appreciati­on supper hosted by the Shelburne Lions Club in late February.

About 80 people attended the Feb. 23 sup- per, said Carol Morash, secretary of the club and co-chair of the giving tree project. Appreciati­on certificat­es were given to businesses and individual­s who took part in either the kettle campaign or the giving tree campaign by Salvation Army Captain Dennis Mulbury, Liverpool.

Morash said there are a lot of volunteers and a lot of businesses that step up every year to help make Christmas merry for those in need.

The Shelburne Lions Club has been partnering with the Liverpool Salvation Army for some 20 years to bring Christmas relief to eastern Shelburne County residents.

“The Salvation Army provides the food hampers and Lions Club through the giving tree provide all the toys for the children and the families,” said Morash. Last year 112 children and 57 families were assisted through the program.

“It’s not only these people, its the whole community, all of the citizens of Shelburne, they are the reason we have the toys, so really we’re thanking everybody in Shelburne County that does it,” she said, noting there was an anonymous donation of 60 turkeys made last Christmas by someone from the Barrington area.
