Meet our new Digby County reporter.

- AMANDA DOUCETTE DIGBYCOURIER. CA

Hello Digby County!

My name is Amanda Doucette and I’m the new local reporter for the Digby Courier website and Tri-County Vanguard newspaper.

I’ve met some folks already but am looking forward to meeting each and every one of you in my time here.

If you’d like to get to know me, I was born in Brampton, Ont. but moved to Prince Edward Island at a young age. I’ve lived in Tignish, Summerside and Charlottetown. Although I wasn’t born in P.E.I., I still consider myself an Islander.

After high school I took two years off to decide what I wanted to do. English has always been one of my strong suits and I’ve always loved reading the news, so what better profession than journalism?

I decided to take the journalism program at Holland College in Charlottetown, where I hit the ground running and began writing my very first day of classes.

The program kicked me out of my comfort zone, demanded I work hard and meet tight deadlines just like in the real world of news.

I’m only graduating the program in May, but I decided I was ready to take on a job, so I packed my bags and found a new home in Digby!

I did an internship in Truro last year, where I quickly found myself in love with Nova Scotia. In some ways it reminds me of P. E. I., so I feel closer to home than I may be.

Living in P.E.I. most of my life has definitely crafted my love for small towns. Small towns are full of big opportunities and I can’t wait to see what Digby has in store for me.

If you ever have any story ideas or tips, feel free to contact me. Or if you’d just like someone to chat to, I’m always available.

You can reach me at 902-2458054 or at amanda. doucette@ tricountyvanguard.ca
