Waterfront boardwalk proposed for Lake Milo

The Municipality of Yarmouth is exploring the possibility of a waterfront project for Lake Milo that could include observation decks and a boardwalk.

Councillor Trevor Cunningham brought a proposal forward at the March 14 committee of the whole meeting.

“This is a project that’s been on some people’s minds for decades,” he said.

He distributed photos of Bridgewater’s Pijinuiskaq Park along the riverfront, saying it has a lot of the elements that would be appealing at Lake Milo.

“We all know Lake Milo is a jewel in the municipality, very close to the town. The town is thinking of extending its boardwalk further north and we have the asset of the Milo boat club there. Lots of activity takes place – boating, kayaking, sailing, that people don’t have a good vantage point to view,” he said.

Councillor Daniel Allen agreed with Cunningham, adding that a boardwalk on the lake side of the guardrail would provide a safer option for walkers along that stretch of road.

Interim CAO Greg Shay says there are resources in this year’s budget to pursue a preliminary design and visionary work for the project.
