Lockeport boys win gold, SMBA claim bronze, in regionals

The Lockeport Greenwave junior boys basketball team powered their way to gold and SMBA Stingrays claimed bronze at the Western Regionals held at St. Mary’s Bay Academy (SMBA).

Lockeport defeated Bayview Bobcats of Mahone Bay 61-36 in the semi-final match. Aiden Lloyd scored 22 points for the Greenwave and Liam Youden netted 12 for the Bobcats.

SMBA lost their semi- final opener to Wolfville 63-50. Jacobi Ford scored 20 points and James Sabine added 16 points in the loss. Will Deveau led Wolfville with a game high 28 and Rory Hennesy added 23 for the win.

SMBA defeated Bayview 50-40 in the bronze medal match. James Sabine had 21 points and Jacobi Ford chipped in 17 for the win. Liam Youden scored 8 for the Bobcats.

Lockeport downed Wolfville 73-38 to win gold. Joel Williams led the Greenwave with 23 points and Cole Cotter netted 16. Wolfville’s Rory Hennesy scored 12 points.

SMBA hosted the regionals after winning the Western Region Tier 2 Boys District Championsh­ip.

Trysten Deveau, who competed at the Junior Pan American Karate Championsh­ips in Argentina last year more recently won gold at the Canadian National Championsh­ips.
