Celebrating the value of our volunteers
The Nova Scotia Association of Community Business Development Corporations would like to thank its volunteers for their contributions over the past year. More than 130 volunteers make rural business development possible in Nova Scotia through regional Community Business Development Corporations ( CBDC).
CBDC-Shelburne has an independent volunteer Board of Directors comprised of six local business and community leaders. These leaders are key in our success as they help make the investment decisions that determine the future of the business community for their region. Using their wide business knowledge and experiences our volunteers at CBDC-Shelburne provide upwards of 20 hours of support per month.
These volunteers are dedicated to community economic development in Rural Nova Scotia and are committed to making our community a better place to live and work. The knowledge of the local markets, the business environment and the people are the basis for our success. Without the contributions of our volunteer board we could not effectively provide such comprehensive programs to our rural entrepreneurs as they start and expand their businesses.
The CBDCs are a not- forprofit organization with a mandate to foster community- based economic development by providing business support and loans to small and medium business enterprises. Last year alone, Nova Scotia’s 13 CBDCs invested $ 22 million in new and existing entrepreneurial ventures in the form of repayable loans. These initiatives created 570 jobs and maintained an additional 961 jobs, all in the private sector.
