Digby team wins provincial­s gold

Strong showing for Digby Area Volleyball Club

It was a good showing for the Digby Area Volleyball Club at last weekend’s Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial­s.

The 16U Digby Crossfires Orange team won the provincial Tier 3 championsh­ip. The team had come out of the round robin undefeated and was ranked first. After moving past the semi-finals the team went on to play Middleton Magic, winning the championsh­ip in three sets.

The 16U Black team are bronze medalists in the Tier 2 White division. The Digby team came back from a tough semi-final loss and performed great in the bronze medal match, winning in two sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-15. This year was the first time a Digby volleyball club has competed in Tier 2 at this level.

The 14U girls lost in the quarter final match in 3 sets, in what was the best match they have played all season long, according to a posting on the club’s Facebook page. The Digby Crossfires 16U Orange team won the provincial Tier 3 championsh­ip in the Division Two Blue category of Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial­s. From the weekend the club also gives a special shout-out to Janelle The Digby 16U Black team are bronze medalists in the Tier 2 White division of Volleyball Nova Scotia provincial­s. Andrews, Lisanne Doucet and Emilie Moore on being named to the all-star teams for the tournament, and to Aaliyiah Horner on being named tournament MVP.

This coming weekend 13U and 15U teams from Digby will be competing at provincial­s.
