Escaping the Electric City
Weymouth organization hosts history-themed escape room
Sissiboo Landing found a new way to encourage learning about the history of New France and Weymouth.
With the help of Mile East Productions, they’ve combined a history lesson into an escape room game.
“It’s a perfect way to help bring attention to the history of our area,” said Sissiboo Landing’s manager Jeanne Nesbit.
Mile East Productions is a Yarmouth event planning company. They’ve helped plan the event, which took place on April 14, 21 with a final day on April 28. Participants have 60 minutes to solve clues presented to them, with the end goal being to light up the Electric City.
New France was named the ‘Electric City’ because the community in the forest had access to electricity and running water in the late 1800s.
Sissiboo Landing wanted to host a new activity to help it transition from the winter season to the summer tourism season.
“Escape rooms are relatively new to this area and we were looking for something new. We were so excited to have Mile East help us out with this.” Said Nesbit.
Participants seem to be enjoying the event, she said.
Mile East Productions spent a few hours learning about the area, and then decided how they could incorporate some history with the interactive game.
“The great thing about this is it might make someone want to find out more about it (New France),” said Candice Phibbs, co-owner of Mile East Productions.
Although time slots for Escape the Electric City are sold out, Mile East Productions is hosting an escape room at the Digby Pines Golf Resort and Spa on May 2527, called Snow White’s Cottage.
