Hear! Here! presents concert April 27
Hear! Here! Society presents pianist David Potvin in an encore performance at the Yarmouth County Museum, 22 Collins St. on April 27, at 7.p.m.
Potvin first performed in Yarmouth in 2012 as he was preparing to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Acadia University. He returns this year as he prepares to complete his doctoral studies in musical arts in performance from the University of Toronto.
Tickets for this evening concert are $20. Contact 902-742-8765 or email hatfieldmedia@eastlink.ca to secure a seat.
Potvin has been invited to numerous master classes with distinguished performers, including an opportunity in 2017 with Martha Agerich. He performed a work in the evening’s performance that brought some in the audience to tears, but what would one of the world’s greatest pianists think? As he awaited her critique, she conferred with fellow pianist Walter Delahunt. When she finally spoke she conferred on him, perhaps the ultimate compliment, saying she had nothing to offer that could make the performance better. Instead she invited him to play more of his repertoire.
His appearance in Yarmouth is part of a Nova Scotia recital tour that includes stops in Halifax and Wolfville. He is previewing a program he plans to perform early in May at the 2018 Shean piano competition in Calgary. Last year he was a finalist in the Stepping Stone/Tremplin program. The year before he earned first prize at the University of Toronto DMA Recital Competition.
He is a member of the Ontario Registered Teachers Association and has an active studio. In addition to piano performance, Potvin has published and presented several scholarly works.
Hear! Here! is entering its tenth season. This concert is presented with the continuing support of Arts Nova Scotia and the Town of Yarmouth.
