Feed Your Passion through reading this summer with Western Counties Regional Library’s Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme invites and inspires entire families to read what they are passionate about or areas, subjects or series they wish to explore.

“This summer’s theme encourages participants to pursue their passions through reading,” says children’s librarian Deborah Duke.

All 10 branches of Western Counties Regional Library in Digby, Shelburne and Yarmouth counties are offering children, teen and adult reading clubs to ensure a fun, friendly family literacy event over the summer months.

“We have a reading club for all ages that includes reading incentives such as prizes, and the reward says Duke.

The club runs from June 22 through Aug. 24.

The Children’s Summer Reading Club is for children up to the Grade 6 level. Young readers can read a minimum of 12 hours over the summer months to be entered into prize draws that include everything from family museum passes to science kits and other creative toys to skating or a Fast Pass to Upper Clements Parks. Children can read for additional hours to receive more ballots for the draw prizes.

The teen club is for youth entering Grade 6 to those aged 16 years of age or younger. The teen and adult goals are to read for a minimum of 25 hours over the summer to obtain a ballot for the prize draws. Teens reading for 25 hours will have a chance to win a BMX bike, pizza, a backpack filled with school supplies, or a Fast Pass to Upper Clements Parks.

Adults have a chance to win golf and brunch for two at Digby Pines Resort and Spa, a family of reading itself,” membership to the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia or a gift card to Coles Yarmouth. Teens and adults can enter a book draw provided by Coles Yarmouth for every five hours read.

Area businesses such as Belliveau Motors in Digby County, Canadian Tire Yarmouth and Wilson’s Home Hardware in Barrington Passage have provided a wide selection of prizes for the children’s club.

“It is a family affair,” says Duke. “It doesn’t matter what you’re reading as long as you’re reading.”

Duke reminds those heading out on vacation that the library has a full digital library, allowing people to download books onto their mobile devices. If they want a hard copy of a book, they can always ask for an extended loan to cover the time they are away. Through the province’s borrow anywhere, return anywhere policy, people can return their books to any library in Nova Scotia.

The reading club also includes plenty of programming. The library will be running a full range of programs. To find out more about the reading clubs and programming visit any library branch or visit https:// westerncounties. ca/ events/ this-month-your-library/.
