A long-running summertime sports event in Yarmouth County will be held again this year as youngsters tackle the Ellenwood Kids Triathlon.

The annual swimming-bikingrunning race is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, but will be pushed back to Sunday, July 8 in the event of rain.

There were about 75 participants last year, said race director Cindy Robicheau.

“The kids always have such a great time,” she said. “They’re just so enthusiastic and so excited to do the event.”

Race- day registration and check-in for the triathlon is set for 9:30 a.m. at Ellenwood Park.

Age categories for the event are:

• Peewee and under;

• six and seven years old;

• eight and nine;

• 10 and 11;

• 12, 13 and 14.

The distances vary, depending on the age group.

Registration in advance can be done at South West Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Inc. or at Runner’s Attic, both on Main Street in downtown Yarmouth.

The entry fee is $5 per individual, $10 per family or $15 per team.

There is an additional $2 charge for those registering on race day. The extra fee is meant to encourage people to sign up in advance so organizers have an idea how many kids to prepare for.

The Ellenwood Kids Triathlon has been held annually for more than a quarter-century, the event having been introduced in the An image from the Ellenwood Kids Triathlon of 2016. This year’s Yarmouth County event is scheduled for Saturday, July 7. early 1990s.

This has been a challenging time for Robicheau, who is recovering from serious injuries suffered in a car accident in April.

She was getting inquiries about the triathlon while hospitalized.

“I had to put on the Facebook group that I was in the hospital,” she said. “I wasn’t sure if I was going to be up to doing it, so I posted that I needed help and I got some people to help out and they made the posters and the registration forms and have been delivering them around. There were a lot of things I just couldn’t do.”

On a positive note, Robicheau is out of the hospital and back on her feet.

“I’m upright, I’m walking, I’m home,” she said. Results from the Links Self-Scramble.
