A free day camp for youngsters ages six to 11, featuring excursions and educational presentations, is offered by Juniper House this summer.

Week one was scheduled to begin Monday, July 9. The day camp runs on a weekly basis until Aug. 20, which is the start of the last week.

The day camp takes place at Yarmouth Central School on Collins Street from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday except for Aug. 6.

Lunch, snacks, activities and sup- plies are provided free of charge.

Some of the different educational themes to be explored through books, activities and crafts are selfesteem, safety and safe choices, safe anger and feelings as well as selfawareness.

There will also be a guest speaker from Brilliant Labs talking about coding, robotics and 3D printing.

Juniper House Day Camp counsellor Joal Catherine MacLeod says outings include visits to parks, the Firefighters Museum, Fisheries Museum and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

“The first week of camp we have planned to take part in as many of the child-friendly Seafest activities as possible such as the children’s parade, the mayor’s picnic and the boat-building activity,” she said.

The day camp registration is set at a maximum of 10 children, but sometimes exceptions are made.

“If there is a need, we can go higher,” said MacLeod.

The day camp is sponsored by the Yarmouth Lions Club, Yarmouth Area Community Fund and the Yarmouth Town and County Crime Prevention Association.

“We are all very excited for this year’s camp,” said MacLeod.
