PHASE launches Carnival of the Arts July 21

Artists and performers invited to participate

If you juggle or have other performance or artistic abilities, you’re invited to participate in PHASE, a carnival of the arts, on July 21. Amber d’Entremont with her dog, Ted. D’Entremont is co-ordinating a carnival of the arts in Yarmouth on July 21. She’s looking for artists, musicians, dancers and performers of all art forms to participate.

A new street festival that brings together artists, musicians, dancers and other performers from the tri- counties will take place July 21.

PHASE, a new non- profit group, is behind the event, which is being promoted by the same name.

Co- ordinator Amber d’Entremont says the group wants to put on art festivals every season. She hopes the events stimulate the senses of those who participate, starting with the summer carnival.

“This is to bring everyone together, no matter what their art or age.”

Some of Yarmouth’s art galleries are open for the July 21 event, starting at 6 p. m. Participants are invited to visit the Yarmouth Waterfront Gallery, Seahags & Scallywags, Murray Manor Art & Culture House, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

The street festival will run from 8 to 10 p.m. on First Street and Alma Street.

Some of the activities and attractions include a dunk tank, cotton candy, live comedy, a mime (Tyrus Williams-Penney) and Clare dancers with the Moonlight Swing band. Karla Delaney will have paint poured over her as she works on a large canvas, performing yoga. A henna tattoo artist, muralist and face painter will be on site, and Speakeasy Supper Club will be serving corn-on-the-cob.

“We’re going for fun,” said d’Entremont, referring to the goal of the carnival.

She has many creative ideas she plans on adding to the event.

“I’m bringing in a piece of plywood with nails on it and everyone can put crochet thread on it to create art,” she said.

Artists, dancers, crafters and performers of all kinds are still being sought for the event to make it a true “Carnival of the Arts,” says d’Entremont. “This is a great opportunity to perform, sell or promote your art, meet other artists, and get involved in the local arts community.”
