WOOD, Annie Laura – age 101, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018 with her family by her side in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on May 20, 1917, daughter to the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Bullerwell) Hamilton, Laura was the matriarch of her family. She loved her children, grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren dearly. She also loved the Lord and her church family, often hosting bible study at her home in Raynardton. A tireless woman, Laura worked side by side with her husband, Leslie, in establishi­ng Leslie Wood Fur Farms Ltd. and Wood Berries Inc. Along with her sons and grandchild­ren whom she instilled her strong work ethic, she continued to play an active role in farm life. At 100 years old, Laura could still be seen in the fields picking strawberri­es or blueberrie­s. An avid outdoors-woman, Laura enjoyed fishing and hunting. She shot her last moose at the age of 96 on a hunting trip in Newfoundla­nd and shot her last deer last fall at 100 years young. In her spare time, she loved to garden and play games with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Ronna (Fred) Churchill, Raynardton; sons, Bill (Gail) Wood, Raynardton; Tim (Marla) Wood, Yarmouth; Laurie (Beth) Wood, Canaan; sister, Ethel Raynard, Tusket Falls; grandchild­ren, Jody (Jim) Rossiter; Lesley (Dwayne) Landry; Chris Churchill; Darren Churchill (Darlene LeBlanc); Tanya (Len) Amiro; Jedd (Laurel) Wood; Caleb (Jen) Wood; Mallory (Shayne) Pottie; Matthew (Lauren) Wood; Morghan Wood (Brett Adams); great grandchild­ren; David, Evan, Kate, Lexi, Dylan, Cassidy, Isabella, Autumn, Jesse, Oliver, Owen and Cooper. Aside from her parents, she was predecease­d by her husband, Leslie Wood; brothers, Donald, Arnold, Lloyd and Harold; sisters, Ardis, Edith and Marguerite in infancy. Funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematoriu­m, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Thursday July 5th, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Friday July 6th, 2018 at 2 P.M. from Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Pastor Eric Whitehouse officiated. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery, Gavelton. Family flowers only. Donations in Laura’s memory may be made to the Greenlawn Cemetery or the Raynardton Free Baptist Church.
