I am astounded by the Canadian imposed tariffs against the United States in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Canadians seem to have briefly rallied around Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his “Canada will not be pushed around” stance. But rather than immediately responding by retaliating in kind, Trudeau should have considered other options.

The truth is, we need the States more than they need us.

So... those who want to “shop Canada,” I guess you won’t be going to WalMart anymore, will you? And I guess you won’t mind paying more money for similiar products, whatever you might buy.

I presume also that you’ll also be willing to wait for Canadian manu-

facturers to keep up with this sudden surge for Canadian made products?

Believe me, this action by the prime minister will have a huge impact on the Canadian population and it mostly won’t be good.

I suppose that right now, this is not a popular opinion, but I feel it is a more accurate account of our economical standing. Sandra Lent, Digby County
