Weymouth Wins Foggies Invitation­al

Clark’s Harbour Foggies captured the silver medal

The Clark’s Harbour Foggies took home the silver medal during their Invitation­al U15 Baseball Tournament July 7 and 8.

The Foggies, who hosted the tournament, opened with a 14-4 drubbing of the Bridgewate­r Bulldogs. Player of the Game Ethan Brannen slammed two doubles and two singles at the plate to pace the attack, while Tanner Nickerson and Drew Goreham added a pair of singles each. Jordan Belliveau picked up the win on the mound.

Up next, the Clark’s Harbour squad made it two wins in a row with a 9-2 decision over the Weymouth Firebirds. Player of the Game Ethan Shand and Ethan Brannen both belted a double and two singles at the plate for the victors, while Ben Nickerson and Nate Wickens combined for the win on the bump. Jack Mullen had an RBI double for the Firebirds.

Player of the Game Nate Wickens had three singles and three runs scored, with Austin Surette also picking up a pair of singles. Drew Goreham and Ethan Brannen shared the duties on the hill for the winners. Lex Swaine picked up a single for the Atwood Foggies.

Weymouth won the championsh­ip contest by edging the Foggies 5-3 in front of a sizeable crowd on the Sunday afternoon at the Sherose Island field. Jaco- bie Ford picked up the victory for Weymouth during the muchantici­pated pitching matchup versus eventual losing pitcher Ethan Shand. Leading 1-0 heading to the top of the fourth inning, an untimely walk, an error and three consecutiv­e hits led to four Firebird runs as the Foggies fell behind for good.

Player of the Game Austin Surette picked up a double and single for the Foggies, with Ethan Brannen adding a pair of singles. For Weymouth, James Sabine had a two-run double, with Ford and Amber Cormier adding an RBI single each. This was the first tournament banner of the season for the much deserving Firebirds.

The Foggies now have a season record of 21-4. Both Clark’s Harbour and Weymouth will compete at the same provincial qualificat­ion tournament in Dartmouth on July 20-22, along with Halifax, Dartmouth Red and Dartmouth Blue. The top three teams advance to the NS U15 Championsh­ips hosted by Hants North on Labour Day weekend.
